SiX By SiX è il nuovo progetto formato da Ian Crichton (Saga), Nigel Glockler (Saxon) e Robert Berry (3; Emerson, Berry, Palmer); il trio pubblicherà l’omonimo album di debutto il 19 agosto 2022 su Inside Out Music.
Dal 30 settembre 2022 sarà inoltre possibile acquistare THE JOURNEY INTERNAL, un graphic novel dedicato all’album di debutto. Il fumetto è basato sulle canzoni di SiX By SiX ed è il risultato di una collaborazione tra la band e il famoso artista di Chicago J.C. Baez.
Anche se non è stato realizzato come un concept album, la band e l’artista hanno intessuto le canzoni in un avvincente racconto pieno di avventure e lotte. THE JOURNEY INTERNAL è una storia struggente e coinvolgente di un uomo e della sua ricerca della bellezza e della pace universale. Racconta il viaggio del protagonista Reign alla ricerca della luce del sole in un mondo molto buio, seguendola e inseguendola nei suoi alti e bassi. Le pagine passano da battaglie di fuoco a demoni nelle segrete, dai confini della mente interiore dello stesso Reign alle realtà incontrate per le strade, dalla solitudine in battaglia alla ricerca dell’ispirazione di un sogno non ancora realizzato.

J.C. Baez è un artista di Chicago che in passato ha collaborato con Jon Anderson degli Yes, Steve Hackett dei Genesis e Walter Koenig di Star Trek.

Le radici di SiX By SiX risalgono a diversi decenni fa, quando Glockler e Berry facevano parte del supergruppo GTR in compagnia di Steve Howe, chitarrista degli Yes. Un altro trait d’union fu la connessione con Asia, dove Crichton e Glockler contribuirono alle sessioni di registrazione, mentre Berry fece da collegamento per il suo amico chitarrista Pat Thrall per unirsi alla band. Il tempo passa, le strade si incrociano e il destino riunisce questi tre musicisti, nati da una conversazione con un esperto del settore nel Regno Unito che ha messo in contatto Ian Crichton nell’area di Toronto con Robert Berry fuori San Francisco, il quale a sua volta raggiunse Glockler nella sua casa sulla costa meridionale dell’Inghilterra.

Background:
Ian Crichton is best known as one of the founding members of Saga, alongside his brother Jim. Saga went on to sell roughly 10 million albums world-wide and continue to perform around the world. As the driving force behind SiX By SiX, Ian takes a cunning turn, in assembling another potent band but one that focuses on his guitar prowess. This time with established players, each with a celebrated past, refined skills, and unlimited potential.
Nigel Glockler began his career in 1980 as the drummer for the British band Krakatoa. In 1981 he found an opportunity with singer Toyah. By the end of the year, he joined metal legends, Saxon. Except for two brief absences, Nigel has been behind his massive drum kit as an integral part of Saxon ever since. His powerhouse drumming is the engine that drives SiX By SiX’s songs forwards relentlessly.
Robert Berry first gained international attention with San Francisco-based Hush, releasing well-received recordings and then touring the USA. In the mid-1980s Berry’s first solo album garnered positive reviews in the most influential trade publications and attracted the attention of several major labels. At the suggestion of one of those labels, Robert moved to the UK to work with guitarist Steve Howe (of Yes fame) along with drummer Nigel Glockler in an effort to revitalize GTR. When GTR stalled, Robert partnered with British rock legends Keith Emerson and Carl Palmer to form ‘3’. With Emerson and Palmer, Robert achieved a top ten charting single and toured the USA. Robert’s melodic sensibilities complement Ian’s extraordinary guitar and Nigel’s signature drumming perfectly.
