I THE TANGENT, il progetto progressive/jazz-rock di Andy Tillison, sono orgogliosi di annunciare la release del nuovo album “Songs From The Hard Shoulder”, in uscita il 10 giugno 2022, ancora una volta per Inside Out Music. Il nuovo album vede la band olandese concentrata principalmente su brani molto lunghi ed epiche suite, con un solo brano in tracklist al di sotto dei 16 minuti!

Il commento di Andy Tillison:
“‘The Changes’ è stata scritta nel pieno del primo lockdown del Covid. Durante questo periodo parecchio strano c’è stato un vuoto costante in tutte le nostre vite e questa canzone esplora i miei sentimenti di quel periodo. Cominciai a chiedermi se la band si sarebbe mai incontrata di nuovo, e cosa più importante, quanto tempo ci sarebbe voluto prima che potessi rivedere la mia famiglia. Parte della canzone è incentrata sulle minuzie di essere in tour con una band… non tanto la mancanza dei concerti, dei palchi e il suonare, ma la mancanza di quelle piccole cose pazzesche come non riuscire a trovare un hotel, perdersi in giro per il mondo e il cameratismo generale che è tutto quando una band è on the road. È importante dire che questo singolo è solo 5 minuti di ciò che è una canzone di 17 minuti, è solo un accenno di ciò che troverete nella versione completa… con un incredibile assolo di chitarra Luke Machin!”

With ‘Songs From the Hard Shoulder’, the band (who are celebrating their 20th year in the business) have audibly focused on the compositional structure of this album which in the case of the three long pieces is also highly complex and “thought out” – from a luscious and uplifting song about loneliness in Covid lockdown, to a full on 17-minute long jazz/prog/canterbury fusion instrumental, to a darkly electronic story of a homeless woman with shades of Nine Inch Nails, Po90, Japan and Van Der Graaf lurking within. The album’s final track is the 4 minute bouncy Motown-style track “Wasted Soul”, where the band anticipate a wonderful day in the future when the pandemic is over forever. Early editions and the Vinyl Edition will include the bonus track “In The Dead Of Night” which is of course a cover version of the classic song by UK. The band lineup remains from the previous 2 albums as Andy Tillison (Vocal/Keyboards), Jonas Reingold (Bass), Luke Machin (Guitar/Vocals), Steve Roberts (Drums) and Theo Travis (Sax & Flute).
